Meeting the Needs of Victims
The Cass County Prosecutor's Office is committed to the compassionate, competent, and comprehensive treatment of crime victims and their families. It is a basic and essential part of being a prosecutor.  The Prosecutor's Office and the Victim Services staff are here to aid the citizens of Cass County.

The moment your life was disrupted by crime, you were thrust into the center of the complex legal system.  It can often be confusing and difficult.  During this process, you might be dealing with physical or psychological trauma that may linger long after wounds have healed.  You may feel all alone but you are not.

Victim Services staff is here for you, ready to help you through the process.  To us you are the most important person in the criminal justice system.  We are here to answer your questions no mater how small and to provide you with information, advice and encouragement.

Services to Victims
The Victim Services Division of the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office provides a variety of services to victims of crime. Chapter 595 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri and Article I, Section 32 of the Missouri Constitution guarantees the rights of victims of crimes. As a crime victim you have the right to be present at all criminal justice proceedings which defendant can also attend. You also have a right to be informed of and to be heard at guilty pleas, sentencing, hearings, probation revocations, parole hearings. Victims also have the right to be informed of trials and preliminary hearings, to receive restitution and information and explanations about the criminal justice process.

Victim Advocate
Victim Advocates provide victims with information and assistance regarding the criminal justice process and crime victims compensation. The services offered to victims include:
  • Case Status
  • Courtroom Accompaniment
  • Assistance in compiling victim impact statements
  • Information and Referral to community resources
  • Assistance with filing victim compensation claims
  • Emotional Support
Role of the Victim
As a victim of crime, you have a critical role in our efforts to prosecute and you may be subpoenaed to testify. The prosecution of a criminal case can be a frustrating and lengthy process. The staff of the Victim Services Division is very dedicated to the needs of crime victims and you, as a victim, should not hesitate to contact a member of the staff.
