Food Handler Cards
IN-PERSON
Step 1: Take an In-Person Class
Starting February 8th, 2024, an option to individually schedule an in-person food handler class will be available. This course will be taught at the Cass County Health Department located at 1411 S Commercial St, Harrisonville, MO 64701. To sign up for this class, simply register below, and the environmental team will contact you through your preferred method to schedule a time to teach the course during office hours (Mon-Fri, 8am-4:30pm). Availability of environmental staff will cause available course dates to vary.
The class fee is $20.

Individually Scheduled: During Office Hours (Monday - Friday, 8am - 4:30pm)
Step 2: Pass In-Person Test
After completing an in-person course, a test will be administered, and a food handler card will be emailed to all participants who pass this test.
ONLINE
Step 1: Take the Food Safety Course Online
To complete the food handler safety course online, go to www.statefoodsafety.com and take the Missouri, Cass County online course for $25.00. Any ANSI-approved food safety course is accepted.
Upon completion of the course, a certificate will be issued to the participant. This certificate must be presented to the Cass County Health Department before a food handler card is issued.
Note: The certificate issued upon course completion is valid for 90 days from the test's completion date. During this period, the certificate serves as a temporary valid food handler’s card, but the course will need to be retaken if the certificate is allowed to expire.
Step 2: Pass Post-Exam Quiz
A short ten question post-exam must be successfully passed before the food handler card is issued. This can be completed in our health department office OR over a scheduled Zoom call online.
In Office
In-person post-exams can be completed at the Cass County Health Department during normal business hours.
Upon passing the course, bring in a copy of the State Food Safety Certificate and photo ID to the Cass County Health Department located at 1411 S Commercial St, Harrisonville, MO 64701.
Over Zoom
Virtual post-exams are offered via Zoom on Wednesdays from 10:00am-11:00am. Registration for virtual post-exams is required at least 48 hours before the exam is administered.

Managers are required to take an ANSI-approved course, proctored test, and receive a manager's certificate to be considered "Person-In-Charge" at an establishment. This is a requirement in the Cass County Food Code.
